The Haflinger, with their unmistakable blonde manes, are inseparably linked to South Tyrol – for their history begins right here in this region. Our host Sepp Waldner has been connected to these majestic animals since childhood, and through his own breeding, he fulfilled a childhood dream. His fascination with the horses has never waned, and in 1990, he acquired a farm high above Lake Reschensee, transforming it into a model farm, renowned beyond regional borders for its internationally award-winning Haflingers.
The stallion Antinor, who placed 5th at the Haflinger World Exhibition in 1995 at just three years old, is now a legend at over 20 years of age. Most recently, in 2012, the Haflinger stallion Noend was crowned Reserve Champion (2nd place) at the International Stallion Championship in Merano.
Today, on the stud farm by Lake Reschensee, over 10 hectares of land at an altitude of 1,550 meters, surrounded by lush meadows and stunning mountain views, a large herd of mares and foals thrives. The stallions are housed at our Stallion Station at Castle Baslan in Tscherms, near Merano. The Haflingers are trained by experienced professionals for a wide range of uses as sport and leisure horses, such as in seldding, sulky driving, or dressage and western riding.
